To start any eye makeup look an eye shadow primer base should be applied to upper lids. This will stop eye makeup from fading and keeps it from creasing. A good under eye concealer will brighten the eyes.
By placing a layer of translucent loose powder beneath the eye will enable any fallen makeup to be brushed away easily.
Use of highlighter will give an appearance of brightening an area and making it stand out. This is why it’s used on brow bones and along tops of cheek bones. So this can be used along with darker shading tones that appear to make an area recede to create different images and correct parts that may need it.

Eye shadow is used to enhance the natural beauty of the eyes. It can also correct and change the natural eye shape and bring out the best of your eye colour and shape. It is such great fun to apply and can create stunning looks.

Here are some tips you can try out to achieve different effects with eye shadow.

Wide set eyes
To create or accent wide set eyes try these eye makeup tips. This method can also be used to give the effect of creating more distance between eyes that are close set.
- Apply eye primer over the entire upper lid using a concealer brush.
- Using a medium eye shadow brush apply a light shade of eye shadow over the upper lid, from the lashes up to the brow bone.
- With a smaller eye shadow brush place a darker shade of complementing tone eye shadow to the outer third of your eye lid and extend slightly outward from the edge of your eye. Blend and soften any hard lines of eye shadow.
- When using eyeliner, start the line about a third of the way in from the centre of the eye and gradually widen the line as you get to the outer corner of the eye. Keep the line thin and close to the lashes near the inner part and centre of the eye.
- Place a coat of mascara over the lashes. Thinly over the lashes towards the centre of the eyes and heavier over the lashes at the outer corner of the eyes.

Close Set Eyes
Follow these tips to create the illusion of wide set eyes being closer.
- Apply eye primer over the entire upper lid area.
- Apply a light shade of eye shadow over the upper lid from lashes to brow bone.
- Using a complementary shade of a darker eye shadow, begin applying the shadow to the inner corner of the eye lid and sweep it out along the crease, to the outer edge of the eyes taking care not to take it beyond the edge.
- When applying liner don’t make it too heavy near the outer corner of the eye. Try to apply it evenly and close to the lashes.
- Apply mascara evenly over lashes.

Big Beautiful eyes
To create big bold eyes that really stand out try following these eye makeup tips and techniques.
- Apply highlighter onto brow bone, just under the brow.
- Apply a light to medium shade of eye shadow over the entire upper lid.
- Create a socket line by using a dark shade of shadow along the crease of upper lid drawing it to the outer corner of the eye. Apply the same shadow shade along the edge of the lashes along the bottom lid to gently fade out just passed the centre of the eye.
- Blend and soften where needed
- Apply eye liner along the edge of the lashes on top and bottom lids.
- Apply mascara generously or try some false eye lashes.

 
Softening Prominent Eyes
Use of dark shadow creates the illusion of a feature receding or appearing deeper set. This can be applied to eyes or creating cheek bones.
- Apply a matte dark shade of shadow over the lid up to the brow bone.
- Using a darker shadow apply a line of shadow along the lid close to the lashes but quite a wide line. This should appear as a very soft eye line.
- Apply mascara.
